All private matriculation and CBSE schools across Tamil Nadu have declared a holiday on Friday owing to the state-wide bandh.

Speaking to The News Minute, KR Nandakumar, General Secretary, Tamil Nadu Nursery Primary Matriculation and CBSE (private) Schools Association said, "All private schools will be shut tomorrow. No petrol bunks and private vehicles are working tomorrow so we cannot conduct classes. The children will be having classes on Saturday," said KR Nandakumar, General Secretary, Tamil Nadu Nursery Primary Matriculation and CBSE (private) Schools Association.

Schools will compensate for the loss of academic hours by working on Saturday.

Government schools, however, will function, confirmed the Department of School Education Director, Kannapan. Class 10 and 12 students have the quarterly examination underway presenty.

Various trade organisations and farmers’ associations have called for a state-wide shutdown over the Cauvery issue against violence targeting Tamils in Karnataka and seeking a permanent solution to the dispute. Opposition parties including the DMK have also extended their support to Friday’s bandh.
